Blue oaks are one of the three oak trees found in Walnut Creek Open Space. Notice the minimal lobing of the small leaves (compare to the bird feathers). See the distinctive groove pattern in the bark. Blue oak woodland is commonly seen in Shell Ridge as in the last photo.
