We have listed limits on group size for many activities  If you wish to bring a group to an activity, please click on the link in the listing for that activity to contact the project leader and reserve space.  

Regular Activities

First and Third Wednesday Group- We meet at 9am on the first and third Wednesday mornings of each month to do tasks related to habitat restoration.  On a particular day, we might be weeding in an area we have planted or intend to plant, monitoring and maintenance of previous plantings, watering plants or helping to measure changes in our open space.  We will work in Walnut Creek's Open Space areas and in the Nature Area in Heather Farm Park.  The location will vary depending on the day's activity. We usually start at 9am and work until  11:30am.

If you think you might be interesting in working in our Wednesday group, send us an email to get on our email list.  before each work day, we will send an email describing  what we will be doing and where we will meet. There is no obligation to attend all the events.  You may come when it fits your schedule and the day's work suits you.

Every Tuesday Group - This established group has openings for activities through February.  They concentrate on work at the Bayberry Pond site including planting native plants and removing non-native weeds. They will also be propagating native plants at our new nursery. If you would like to work with this group, send us an email to get on our email list.


March 2010

3/6 - Native plant maintenance in Heather Farm Park (9am - 11:30am)   Meet at 9:00am in the Equestrian Center parking lot in Heather Farm Park.   Dress for the weather.  Your clothes may get a bit dirty.   (group limit: 10 people. Groups should email for reservations.)

3/13  - Oak planting site maintenance in Shell Ridge  Meet at 8:30 at Sutherland Drive Entrance (off Walnut Blvd.)  We will be checking old plants, doing some judicious pruning, removing any failed sites and renewing Tubex to protect tender bark from deer antler rubbing. Should we be rained out we'll try to pick substitute date.  (Groups should email for reservations.)

3/27 - Native plant maintenance in Heather Farm Park (9am - 11:30am)   - Canceled.

May 2010

May 1 - Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation Spring Bird Walk
The foundation's annual spring bird walk will be held on Saturday, May 1 from 8:00 AM to noon.  Join Maury Stern for a five mile walk on Lime Ridge to view birds and spring flowers.  The walk will start from the kiosk at the parking area at the end of Valley Vista Rd., across from the Boundary Oak Golf Course Clubhouse, and climb 800 feet to the transmission tower atop Lime Ridge and then return to the parking area about noon.  Bring camera, binoculars, sunglasses, sunblock and water.  Hiking boots recommended.
